They’re collecting plastic bottles, which are then counted, bagged and taken to Foodworks in Rylstone (collection point) and redeemed for cash. They’ve been given a challenge to raise $500 by end of Term 2, only a few weeks in they’re already over $100.
“In addition to the mathematics (tallying, graphing data, addition and money skills), students have been learning about the recycling process and the impact waste plastic has on our environment,” Lue principal Caron McDonald said. “Their sense of pride at being able to contribute to their own excursion is spurring them on and I am so very proud of their determination. A big thank you must go to the parents and community members who are dropping off the bottles to school and to the staff at Rylstone Foodworks who have been so very supportive of our challenge. I think we have some future entrepreneurs in the making at Lue.”
