Held in Dubai, it’s the world’s largest annual food and beverage industry event attracting more than 97,000 visitors each year, giving NSW companies a rich opportunity to expand across global export markets.
Honey Australia director Nathan Maiolo described the Middle East as a fresh market with lots of potential to export honey products.
“We have seen the demand for good quality pure honey on the rise in the Middle East, including organic and Australian manuka honey – it’s definitely exciting times for Australia and our industry,” he said.
“We have just signed an exclusive agent in Saudia Arabia, which in the coming months will open a distribution channel into approximately 1200 stores including one of the largest pharmacy chains in the region as well as hyper markets.”
Minister for Primary Industries, Niall Blair met brothers Nathan and Nicholas Maiolo at their stand.
He said it’s a regional success story – a family owned business that have perfected their produce and are now are ready to market it beyond our shores.
“The Maiolo brother’s process 300 tonnes of honey per year from the farm to the factory, with the goal to increase this volume year to year,” Mr Blair said.
“Over the last three years they’ve begun exporting to Asia, the USA, the UK and now they have their eyes set on the Middle Eastern and European markets.”
