Five wickets from Andrew Gay gave Lawson Park Hotel a 32-run victory in their Mudgee District Cricket Association Twenty20 match against Woolpack Hotel at Victoria Park.
Gay’s haul overshadowed a disappointing-looking Lawson Park scorecard as no batsmen scored more than 25.
Gay was hard for the Woolpack batsmen to put away as he picked up two wickets in his first over and three more in his last.
He collected the prized scalp of Woolpack’s top scorer Steve Knight for 48.
Earlier, Gay was one of the first two wickets to fall courtesy of James Gillham.
But Stuart Fredericks and Michael Ford steadied the ship and kept the runs ticking over.
Both players hit sixes during their partnership of 34.
Fredericks was the third man to go for 24, bowled by Brad Golden. Shorty after, it was Ford who was walking back to the pavilion for 11.
Michael Anderson and Jeremy Doherty kept things moving before Doherty was gone for 11.
Two more wickets fell quickly - Anderson (21) and Darren Snyder (6).
Ben Reynolds, the season’s leading runs scorer, blasted a quick fire 22 to get Lawson Park to 8-131 from their 20 overs.
Jeremy Newman finished with the best bowling figures for Woolpack, 3-15 off four overs.
The run chase didn’t start well with Jacob Edmonds trapping Rod McPherson leg before wicket for two and Reynolds had Troy Kenny caught for four.
Knight and Ed Turner (19) got the runs ticking over before Turner became Gay’s first victim.
From that moment, it was all Gay.
