Mid-Western Regional Council corporate communications officer Pip Goldsmith said council was keen to support community groups in their application for funding.
“Unfortunately Council isn’t eligible to apply for this particular grant, but we’re available to help any community group with their application,” Ms Goldsmith said.
Keep Australia Beautiful NSW will be running Community Litter Program capacity building workshops across NSW in February 2013.
A workshop in Dubbo next week will provide information about eligibility for community groups and non profit organisations, and the two stages of the grants.
Stage 1, a Local Litter Check, will collect data to help community groups identify the best actions to tackle litter in a chosen litter hot spot. Groups who send KABNSW completed data will be reimbursed $300.
Stage two is the grant application
The grants will be awarded to through a competitive process and must use the data from the Stage 1 Local Litter Check. Grants of up to $5000 will be provided to community organisations to implement actions and measure the success of their litter prevention efforts.
“Groups can apply for a grant of up to $5000 but to be in the running, they must complete stage one of the funding process. The easiest way to understand the requirements and make sure you’re able to take all the necessary steps is to attend the workshop,” Ms Goldsmith said.
The Community Litter Grants are being managed by KABNSW in partnership with the NSW Environmental Protection Authority, and will enable community groups to tackle litter in local neighbourhoods.
The workshop will be held in the Dubbo City Council Central Conference Room from 6-8pm next Thursday, February 14.
Topics will include an overview including background and research on litter in NSW, current and future litter resources available for the community to use, a closer look at the litter evaluation methodology and how to complete surveys, how to register your interest in Stage 1, how to submit a Stage 1 application and receive payment and how to apply for Stage 2 grants.
