Council will consider a development application for 14 sites to be used in association with events at the showground such as the Mudgee Show, campdrafting and pony club events.
The sites may also be used as “overflow” accommodation for major events such as the Mudgee Small Farm Field Days when commercial caravan and tourist parks in the area are full.
Mid-Western Regional Council last year restricted camping at the showgrounds to “overflow” camping and camping in association with showground events after local caravan parks complained that showgrounds camping was competing with their businesses.
The new facilities proposed include 14 new camping sites for caravans, motor homes or tents, provision of a fire hydrant and construction of a laundry amenities block.
Use of the showground as a camping site would be permitted for only 28 days a year.
