About 50 years ago when the Bowling Club was opposite the Post Office the club decided to move it to its present site at Burrundulla Avenue to get out of the CBD to an area where there was more room for a clubhouse, car parking etc.

They built a club that for 50 years has needed no renovations, what foresight they had. A large northerly facing glassed auditorium with dual kitchens; a wonderful viewing deck to watch bowls; good bar areas; three greens.
This club has served the bowlers and people of Mudgee and district all those years - wedings, parties, wakes and many other functions. It is still the preferred site in Mudgee for many of these functions.
Sadly the Bowling Club wasn’t surviving and they formed an amalgamation with Club Mudgee who closed their greens.
Many of their bowlers moved to the Bowling Club and to many people, the club picked up more bowlers. Plenty of functions, good affordable restaurant food.
Club Mudgee removes all the honour boards, puts a coat of paint on main bar area, closes half the bar area down much to the annoyance of patrons.
Despite all this we are told by Club Mudgee the Bowling Club is not paying its way.
It was never Club Mudgee’s intentions for it to be profitable. Congratulations Club Mudgee for moving the Bowling Club back to the CBD where it wasn’t suited 50- years ago. I would like to thank all the members and patrons who have supported the Bowling Club and especially the people who volunteer their time for Friday night raffles etc.
The Bowling Club has become a family friendly club and will be sadly missed by many.
Mudgee, with its burgeoning population, should be able to support both these clubs with sound and good management.
Many years ago Mudgee lost an iconic building, namely the Hotel Mudgee. I think we are about to lose another one. I close with two words, foresight and hindsight.
