The original artwork was painted by Kandos artist Simone Mackin in 2001.
Simone’s earliest artwork was of the local bird-life which she painted on small pieces of wood.
Her more recent work in acrylic on large vinyl canvas depicts familiar buildings, structures and streetscapes of Kandos and Rylstone. She is also drawn to local bird and animal life, and scenery.
“I cannot just paint anything. I need to feel the passion in a subject,” said this former cub leader who was given a gift of acrylic paints on departure from cubs.
“I had to use those little pots of paint. That was the start of my painting.”
An exhibition of Simone’s work will be on display at Kandos Projects Angus Avenue over the centenary weekend.
One hundred numbered boxed plates will be on sale at Kandos Community Shop for $30 each and at the Meet and Greet Stall during the October long weekend centenary festivities.
Guests at the Gala Ball on Saturday, October 4, will receive a complimentary commemorative glass.
A limited supply of boxed glass sets will be on sale at $20 a pair.
