Mudgee’s Ethan Butler leaves today for a week-long tour of Papua New Guinea with the NSW Young Achievers team.
The team is part of the NSW Rugby League Academy and they have been conducting youth development tours for 15 years.
They left Sydney this morning after attending the NRL grand final last night.
They will play three games on their tour including the curtain-raiser to the Prime Minister’s XIII match against the Kumals on Sunday, October 12.
The Academy’s first match is on Wednesday against Kokopo.
The next match is on Friday against Rabaul.
Saturday will be a special day as the young stars train with the PM’s XIII before holding coaching clinics and visiting the War Memorial.
Their final match is against a PNG national selected team prior to the PM XIII’s match.
They return to Australia on Monday, October 13.
In June, Butler said he was excited about the tour.
“I got selected from Group 10 and I got an email a while ago saying I was in. It should be pretty good,” he said at the time.
A host of Central West players are in the Young Achievers team.
The team is coached by Nyngan’s Col Wright.
