Stage one of the Southside Skills Centre is currently due to be completed by mid-February and is considered a major project by the local Lions Club.
President of Mudgee Lions Andrew Hudson, said a tour of LifeSkills’ current Perry Street premises convinced him the support was needed.
“When Lions was first approached for assistance with the development of new premises for LifeSkills, a few of us went to see the current premises at Perry Street for ourselves,” he said.
“What we saw was dedicated staff and clients of Lifeskills making the most of premises that are clearly in need of replacement. The organisation has outgrown this heritage listed building. Lifeskills Plus is now, the major project as far as Lions is concerned. Whatever we can do to help, we will do. We consider this to be just the start for both hands-on support and fundraising assistance for Lifeskills Plus.”
Half of the $25,000 cheque came from the Australian Lions Foundation and the remainder was raised locally.
Lions Mudgee are now looking at donating more funds on an ongoing basis, along with other ways to help Lifeskills Plus get into their new home as soon as possible.
