From December 31 to January 3, the town’s hotels, Gulgong RSL Club, the Butcher Shop Care, Coronation Park and the Prince of Wales Opera House will host concerts, workshops and blackboard sessions ranging from folk to blues, gypsy jazz and bluegrass.
Performers taking part over the festival are Home Rule and Guests, 19 – Twenty, Den Hanrahan and The Rumrunners, Jess Holland, Skarratt & Watts, Frank Povah, Tom Rummery, The Plough, Peter Riley, String Theory, Fanny Mae & The Haystack Hoons, Virago, Ron MacQuarrie, Slightly Off, Natalie Thoroughgood, Mimosa Duo, Matt and Luke Gaudry, Stringline,The Duffys, Springtide, David Johnson, Chris Cady, Bill Casey, Feytalistic, Euripi, The Sydney Union Choir, Rex Havoc, Nick Wall, Des Kelly, Bill Wisemann, Ross and Judy Kurtz, Don Coombes, Kent Daniels, Free Fried Chicken, Dubbo Folk Club, Larry and Ben Hughes, Angie Swannell, Cal Makin, Tom Hamilton, Robb Binks, Salokin, Nicolas Goninan, Marcus McLennan, Fred Ginger Duo, Gary Roberts, Hugh Merrell, Jenny Drury, Angela Scott, The Westwoods, Kerry Ellen, The Ryan Family, Steve Denholm, U3A Ukeleles, Kay Binns and Kay – Lea.
The Festival will open with a New Year’s Eve party on Thursday, December 31. The whole town will be filled with music, including Home Rule and guests in the Centennial Hotel, Euripi in the Prince of Wales Hotel, Kerry Ellen in the Commercial Hotel and Free Fried Chicken in the Post Office Hotel.
Festival events will include Irish sessions at the Centennial Hotel, a poets’ breakfast at the RSL with local and visiting poets; a bush dance with Bathurst band Goldrush on January 2,
Musicians will compete to win a hand-made guitar from one of Australia’s finest luthiers, Gerard Gilet at the Prince of Wales Opera House on January 1.
Young performers could win $100 in the under 18’s talent quest on Saturday, January 2.
Young talent will take to the stage on Saturday, January 2 in the Midsummer Night Magic Show at the Prince of Wales Opera House on Saturday night, January 2, featuring storytelling, acting and circus act performances.
This year the Folk Festival will have more community input including activities for children run by the Ten Dollar Circus and the Gulgong Markets.
The festival will also feature two days of markets including art and crafts, fortune telling, handmade musical instruments, South American and Indian jewellery, clothing and gifts, recycled books and comics, German Bratwurst and Sauerkraut, homemade Gelato and lots more.
