Luke Samuel Galea, aged 32, of Mitchell Highway, Montefiores, pleaded guilty to the charge of common assault.
At about 12.15am, on Sunday, October 11, 2015, Galea was part of a group in the beer garden of Kelly’s Irish Pub following a wedding earlier that day.
An argument broke out between two groups with both parties claiming the other had acting inappropriately towards women present.
Security separated them before the victim in the matter walked up the group that Galea was a part of and a brawl erupted and security had to step in again.
After being struck Galea went up to the victim and punched him in the head.
All involved were then ejected from the pub.
His solicitor, Mr McCarthy, told the court that his client was on parole at the time of the offence but “for a different kind of matter”.
He added that the police facts submitted to the court note that “there was a significant amount of provocation”.
Magistrate Terry Lucas said the maximum penalties available for this sort of incident include two years imprisonment and a $2000 fine.
He told the defendant: “This shouldn’t have happened. Weddings are supposed to be joyous occasions - a few blokes having a blue doesn’t work”.
