Cody Clinton Lewis Riley, aged 20, of Worobil Street, Gulgong, was charged with affray and resisting an officer in the execution of duty.
Riley had been drinking throughout New Year’s Eve at Cudgegong Waters Park.
Shortly after midnight police were called about another man lighting fireworks at the location.
Riley became verbally aggressive towards officers and swearing at them before he was told to back up and was dragged away by other bystanders.
Another man came over and told Riley to shut up and the pair began pushing and shoving each other, they were separated briefly then went at each other again throwing punches.
Police intervened and Riley attempted to push them away and wrestled and struggled with them as he was being handcuffed.
As a result of the incident a group of people at the location became aggressive towards police and threw a number of items at them.
