For the past 22 weeks, the students and coaches have been working through a program that encourages young adults to “make things happen”.
The 2016 participants have certainly been doing just that.
They’ve used their time in the program to find jobs, improve their time management skills to better balance school and work with time for relaxation, improve their fitness, or overcome personal challenges, and shared their personal passions with younger students, senior citizens and people with disabilities.
Some of the students have found new interests, while others have found ways to reach new goals in their existing interests.
The Max Potential program has also encouraged the students to begin planning for their future. Some have gained confidence to aim for careers which they thought were out of reach. For others, taking part in Max Potential has confirmed their ambitions and given them a path towards achieving them.
The results of the program were evident to all at the Max Potential Showcase on Wednesday evening.
Students who had previously been reluctant to speak in public or were worried about meeting new people could be seen chatting confidently to members of the public about their personal and community service projects.
Participants like Eddie Burns (pictured at left) could proudly point to a goal achieved, a new talent discovered, a newfound confidence, or a personal challenge overcome.
Max Potential has been running in the Mid-Western Region for 10 years, in that time offering dozens of students the opportunity to take control of their lives and make an impact in their community.
The program would not be possible without the support of the coaches from the local community and businesses, or the financial support of sponsors.
However, at the end of the day, it is the students who took part in the program who have proved to be inspirational.
Their pride in their achievements and their contribution to the community is well deserved. We look forward to seeing how this group of the region’s young leaders use the lessons of Max Potential in the future.
