The October long event, which had businesses and homes wrapped in pink to raise money for the McGrath Foundation, raised $141,000 in total.
The money was raised during Pink Up Mudgee, Spring Pink Races and a $10,000 donation from organiser, Hugh Bateman – after he won two Real Estate Association Contribution Awards in Melbourne last month.
Mudgee was the first town in Australia to ‘Pink Up’ for the McGrath Foundation – to help fund the training and employment of breast care nurses in regional and rural areas.
Raffle tickets were sold throughout the region, with the prizes supplied by a range of businesses.
Annette Petrie – won the $10,000 pink sapphire ring from Nicolas Haywood Jewellery Concierge.
Elly Clarkson – won the antique diamond earrings from Mudgee Antiques.
Dustin Pilley – won the Holden Spark car from Ross Granata valued over $15,000.
Dustin was shopping at Big W when he received the winning call and rushed down to The Property Shop to check out his new car.
“I couldn’t really believe when I got off the phone – I thought someone was having a joke.”
“It’s a bloody little ripper,” he said.
Mr Bateman said I’m very grateful to the community.
“There are nearly 16,000 new cases of breast cancer every year in Australia. It costs $14 million a year to run the McGrath Foundation, which has 110 breast care nurses around Australia.
Organisers are now hoping next October all of NSW will Pink Up and after that all of Australia.
“Being the first cab of the rank to ‘Pink Up’ is fantastic,” Mr Bateman said.
Since 2005 the McGrath Foundation has supported more than 47,000 families experiencing breast cancer.
