Mel Gibson's WWII drama Hacksaw Ridge has received a staggering 10-minute standing ovation during its world premiere at the 73rd Venice Film Festival.
The movie is based on the true story of US Army medic Desmond Doss, a Seventh-day Adventist who saved the lives of 75 of his comrades while refusing to bear arms under seige at the Battle of Okinawa.
The American-Australian film was filmed mostly in Australia and stars Andrew Garfield and Vince Vaughn alongside homegrown talent Teresa Palmer, Sam Worthington, Ryan Corr, Hugo Weaving, Rachel Griffiths and Richard Roxburgh.
Trolls
Justin Timberlake voices the main charater in the animated movie Trolls.
His two young goddaughters had to convince him to take up the project, something he was initially afraid of.
"I was afraid to go into this because I thought there was probably going to be more frivolity than substance," he said.
"But then I looked at the story and I was like, 'Wait hold on, we have a female protagonist, that has a belly, crazy hair'. I was thinking about my two goddaughters, what women must go through from such a young age of being ashamed of their body and ashamed of their appearance. We have a troll [in this film] and for young females to get to see that, that's not frivolous at all, it's so important, and what a cool way in getting them into the theatre to be like 'I want to be like Princess Poppy, not Barbie."
