But for one Mudgee local, the decision to shave off her blonde locks was very close to home.
Jayde Mitchell took part in the shave on Sunday, just one month after her father passed away from hodgkins lymphoma.
“Dad was suffering from the blood cancer for almost three years and on Sunday I shaved my head on the exact time and date of his passing.
“I just thought it was fitting to raise money for other families that are going through, what we went through,” she said.
“It was quite a struggle, especially the last month.”
The 19-year-old encouraged people to sponsor her head shave with a post to the fundraising page – “It's devastating to see someone in that state and not being able to help.”
She continued – “I want to fight for all those who have suffered blood cancer in memory of my father, who like most, were/are being incredibly strong.”
Jayde hosted a BBQ at Mudgee’s Lawson Park on Sunday for the head shaving, with a $2000 target for the fundraiser.
“It was the perfect time to do the shave and I’m quite happy with the outcome,” she said.
“My family are so so proud – they have said my dad would be so proud of me.
Jayde has already exceeded her $2000 goal, with the event and donation tins around town.
