First up was the u15s decider, with Blowes Menswear coming up against Mudgee Home Decor.
Blowes were first up to the stumps in the battle, but Home Decor’s bowlers were the opening heroes as Pierson Sibley and Jim Newman kept them to 1/8 over the first six overs.
The best of the batsman for Blowes was Coopey Furney with 9 n.o., Nick Hardy for 8 and Oliver Hollow for 7, with the final score set at 79.
Dowell’s three overs were the highlight of the bowling, taking five for 14 in his dangerous run, with Brendan Palmer, Jim Newman, Will Evans and Paddy Morse all collecting a wicket as well.
It was the tale of two bowling performances as Home Decor took their defence, with Jack Meredith taking 2/9 and Riley Smith and Lucas Lilliwhyte-Minett both downing one.
It was a dramatic finale for the match however, as the final two batters – Pierson Sibley and Lily Smith – took up the chase with 36 runs still needed, and just seven overs left.
Excellent running from Smith and Sibley put the former and Hamish Saint in position for the final over, with just six runs left in it, and in the end Smith’s 12 no out and Saint’s 8 not out got them over the line with two balls to spare, and they locked the championship crown for the u15s.
In the u12s the Inside Shop batted first with Jordan Richards making 26 runs, and John Wiseman (16) and Will Turner (9) backed that tally up with two more hauls.
The Butcher Shop Cafe’s bowling had Jackson Pascoe as the leader, taking two wickets and allowing just 12 runs.
The Butcher Shop gave chase then, struggling under the keen eye of the Inside Shop bowlers – the seventh wicket fell at just 53 runs and with only thirteen overs gone.
It was heroic efforts from Dominic Lynn and Jamie Underwood that saved the day for the Shop however, plowing through the 45 runs necessary without either of them going down, and they too closed the match out with two balls to spare.
In the end Lynn recorded a half-ton 51, and Underwood marked 23 not out for himself.
With the Butcher Shop named champions, they joined Home Decor as the champions on the day for the junior grades – now eyes turn to the seniors grand final next weekend on Saturday afternoon.
