Pound the pavement for mum

Over 140 participants took part in the first Mudgee Mother’s Day Classic on Sunday, May 14.

The nationwide event, which included a 4km walk or 8km run starting at Lawson Park, is Australia’s largest breast cancer research fundraiser.

The Mudgee event raised over $7500, including $4000 at a trivia night held in April.

At the event, organiser Lynette Watson shared why she decided to hold the fundraiser this year.

“Sadly nine days after Mother’s Day last year my family suffered the devastating loss of our mum and wife to breast cancer. This year, rather than sitting around feeling sorry for ourselves, I felt the need to do something worthwhile,” she said.

“We’re all here for different reasons - to pay tribute to our mums, to remember a loved one who has passed away from breast cancer, or to offer our support to those who are currently undergoing treatment. But most importantly, we are here to help the National Breast Cancer Foundation work towards their goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.”
