Noosa is a popular destination for a lot of travelers, but for Adam Mort there was only one reason for being in the coastal town – pushing himself to the limit.

The Ultraman Australia is a three-day, 515km endurance race divided into three stages over three days, and held on the Sunshine Coast.
Billed not only as an event that pushes your body to its utmost limits, but also takes massive mental fortitude to fight to the end, it’s the pinnacle of endurance racing in Australia.
Mort now returns to Mudgee having completed the invite-only contest, and revealed that he wasn’t even sure that he would go the distance.
“The biggest thing that I was nervous about going up there was getting within the twelve hour cut-off time each day,” he admitted.
Despite the nerves, Mort proved that he had what it took to call himself an ultraman – he finished all three days around the 10 hour mark.
The first day saw Mort complete the 10km swim in 4:11hrs, before he rode 140km and completed the first third in 10:00:39.
Day two began with more riding, and the Mudgee ultraman completed the second leg – 281km – in 10:05 and arrived home in 30th position.
The final day was the last of the tri-events, as Mort ran 84.3km in two legs, wrapping up the event in 9:29:34.
Now back in town, Mort said that there is nothing quite like finishing an event like the Ultraman Australia.
“Obviously you feel incredible and it gives you a real buzz,” he said.
“The longer the event goes the longer the buzz goes for, and the after effect is really big, so I just feel fantastic.”
The ‘close-knit’ feel of the Noosa competition was the other highlight for Mort, and with just fifty athletes and their support crew he felt he knew most of them.
“Because it was such a small field, it was a bit of a family feel in the race,” he said.
“You got to know a lot of the other support crews that were out there and it was just really great to have everyone so close.”
Now eyeing a long break from competing, Mort will wait a few months before attempting the Coast to Kosciuszko, a 240 kilometre ultramarathon in December.
