Daniel John Appleton, aged 32, of Queens Pinch Road, Mullamuddy, was convicted of the charge ‘Not comply P2 licence condition not display P plates’.
At about 8.45pm on Friday, April 21, 2017, police stopped Appleton on Church Street, Mudgee.
When he handed over his P2 licence, officers inspected the vehicle and didn’t find green P-plates at either the front or rear of the vehicle.
While Magistrate Susan McGowan didn’t convict Appleton for the other offence he was charged with that evening, she didn’t hold back on her thoughts on this charge.
“So you’re one of those irritating people who doesn’t put P-plates on,” she said to the defendant, who represented himself in court.
And asked him “what was this excuse?”.
Appleton replied that someone else had been driving the vehicle earlier.
Magistrate McGowan continued, “ah yes, a work vehicle, you also hear that they fly off in the wind or about that black market for P-plates – because they’re often stolen”.
“Many people say that it’s not the crime of the century, but it shows a general attitude to driving of not caring.”
