Hannah Knowles, a Scottish resident, has made the long journey from her home country to Canberra, and then onward to Mudgee, to meet Rodger Corser, Nicole da Silva and the entire behind-the-scenes crew of the Channel Nine drama.
A lover of film and television, and first falling in love with lead actress Nicole da Silva in the Showcase-produced television program Wentworth, Hannah met an Australian friend – Alicia Newton – who agreed to travel to Mudgee with her for the dream.
Although both of them were fans of the show, and Alicia was interested in seeing the behind-the-scenes of a dramatic television program, Hannah had the passionate drive to cross the globe.
“I followed Nicole’s work since she was on Wentworth and so from there I went to Doctor Doctor, and I made it my mission to come to Mudgee and meet them,” Hannah said.
“I looked at all the pictures of Mudgee, and I just had to come over and I landed and arrived in Canberra, and then when I was here in Mudgee I decided to stay a little longer.”
Hannah was initially just staying in Mudgee for a ‘sneak-peek’ of Doctor Doctor on Friday, but she had to wait for Nicole on Sunday, and that meant she got to explore the town to a greater extent.
From what she’s seen so far, the fictional town of ‘Whyhope’ exists right here in the Central West.
“I gone to some of the local pubs, and I’ve been trying a lot of wines here,” she said.
“I’ve found out how warm the Mudgee community is, and how welcoming everyone here really is – it’s amazing, just like on TV.”
Hannah, who studied television production back in Scotland, gave her a great understanding of the back-end workings of the television program and enhanced her experience.
“Seeing how it all works, and seeing how the industry works over here, is really interesting to me. I love seeing the expansion away from the UK and over here,” she said.
Now Hannah heads to Melbourne, where she’ll see the sets and locations of Wentworth before she heads back home to Scotland with plenty of stories to tell about meeting Hugh, Charlie and seeing in the inner-workings of ‘Whyhope’.
For Doctor Doctor, the show goes on – on Friday, Market Street was transformed into the fictional town, with local extras used in the background of the scenes. Under the shadow of light rain on Monday morning the production crew shot their final scenes for this visit.
They now return to Sydney for more interior shots for the coming episodes. The crew will be back in Mudgee in early August.
