With 136 participants at the event, and the top six spots – as well as qualification to the regional events – coming down to just one shot, it was a clear-cut success for the on-the-rise golf club.
It was Mark Bennie, Matt Stanley and Matthew and Ben McKenzie that came away with the top spot at the end, with 2, 10, 17 and 25 for 55.25.
They were just ahead of the other qualifying team, Dunedoo’s Ben Gallagher, Justin Stoddart, and Daniel and Darron Lane, who scored 36, 17, 12 and 10 for 56.625.
“First to fifth was one shot either way, and that’s how you want it,” organiser Peter Mayson said of the tight finish.
“It was a fantastic day, to see all these visiting teams from up to six towns was great and means we can get two teams through."
Mudgee and Dunedoo’s teams now compete in the regionals in March next year after a format change for the Scramble.
