That’s the message from a pumped up chairman Derrick Hoe after he declared Country Rugby League’s red and black Group the best bush footy competition in the world after a record-breaking Sunday at Caltex Park.

Hoe was immersed in the jubilant scenes on Group 11 grand final day after Dubbo CYMS claimed a 34-18 win over Nyngan in first grade in front of a crowd of 5125 people, generating a record gate taking of $39,000.

Hoe was over the moon.

“This is what bush footy is all about,” Hoe, based out of Parkes, said amid the frenzied premiership celebrations from the Fishies fans.

“I hope other Groups see how good we are. I think Group 11, at the moment, I reckon we’re on top. I can’t say enough. I love Group 11.

“This is what the NRL needs to see, this is what it’s about. Grassroots footy.”

CYMS took home premierships in the league tag and reserve grade to go along with the memorable first grade win for Tim Ryan’s side, one that puts aside the pain of last year’s defeat to Forbes.

In a great day for Dubbo rugby league Macquarie stormed to the under 18s crown over the Magpies, too.

“I can’t believe how great today was. They’re all entertaining games, it’s a beautiful day. It’s the best day for ages,” Hoe said.

Hoe is joined on the Group 11 committee by Paul Loxley and Tony Barlow, among others, and says he’s keen to return to the chairman’s role in 2018 to build on what has been a stellar season.

“I’ll be back next year, we’re going forward all the time,” he added.

“The crew I’ve got behind me, it’s all about rugby league. We’re only trying to make it bigger and better and that’s what football is all about. A bright future for the game.”
