Two Mudgee teams – Mixed Open and Men’s 40s – will be flying the Mudcrabs’ flag against 70 other teams from the Western, Hunter and mid-North Coast regions.
The senior touch football event acts as the perfect warm-up for teams heading to the Country Championships in Dubbo in a fortnight and December’s State Cup in Port Macquarie.
It is the first time in a number of years Mudgee has managed to send multiple teams to the Hornets event.
The Mixed Open team will be coached by Justin Gossage and features many of the association’s top grade-playing players.
They will play Port Hunter, Maitland, Port Macquarie, Forster Tuncurry, Beresfield and Newcastle.
Players in the Mudcrabs’ Men’s 40s have played together regularly either locally or in tournaments, most notably last year’s Country Championships and several Coolah Veterans’ carnivals.
In their division, Mudgee will take on Maitland, Nelson Bay, Wallsend and Newcastle.
The Hornets Championships begins on Saturday.
The representative trip comes on the eve of the Mudgee Touch Association 2017-18 season, which begins next week.
The men’s and women’s competitions get underway on Tuesday evening (October 10) with the juniors and mixed games on Thursday (October 12), all at Glen Willow Sporting Complex.
