“Do it!” These were the words of three women who have entered the competitions at the Miss Priscilla Dinner in the last two years.
The 2018 Goodsell Machinery Miss Priscilla Dinner is back for another glamorous night of big entertainment and even bigger hairstyles, with organisers calling on women of all walks of life to enter one of the most prestigious events at the Parkes Elvis Festival.
If you’re a woman and you’re in Parkes before or on January 11 next year, why not enter the popular contest and take a trip back to the 60s.
“Do it – if anything for the fact it’s a great opportunity to be among a great festival,” entrant and a hairstylist herself, Elissa Gillingham said.
For those who can’t commit to going full Priscilla, they’re being urged not to pack up the hairspray cans yet – women can recreate a rockin’ beehive for the Hairstyles of the ’60's competition, or let their hemlines do the talking for title of Miss ’68.
Prizes for the first place winners of the three competitions include a two night's accommodation in a studio including a continental breakfast served on the pool deck at Corrigans Cove Resort, Batemans Bay; three-course Friday night dinner for two at Sisters Rock Restaurant, Borrodell Vineyard, Orange; and $200 food/beverage and room hire credit at the Hart Bar, Parkes Shire Council.
There are also Picture Perfect and best-dressed competitions, a raffle draw and lucky door prize on the night.
Elissa has competed for the last two years, winning the Picture Perfect category for best makeup, done by La Bella Medispa.
“[The experience] was awesome, it’s a great night out,” she said.
“I love the era so that was a big tick for me to enter and the fact I’m a hairdresser, so they are my two loves.”
Parkes woman Kylie Bell also entered the Picture Perfect section in 2016 and said it was a great opportunity to be involved with the festival.
“I enjoy travelling back in time and capturing the 60s,” she said.
Parkes Elvis Festival director Cathy Treasure said It wasn’t too late to sign up for Miss Priscilla.
“Applications are still currently open, and we encourage all ladies to enter, whether you’re a professional hair and makeup artist, beauty queen or just a passionate Priscilla fan out to enjoy one of the best nights of the festival every year,” she said.
She was the Face of 2017’s festival and continues to be until the 2018 Miss Priscilla is crowned on the night of January 11 – day two of the 2018 Parkes Elvis Festival.
“My next events are the Elvis Central opening held on the Sunday before the festival [begins on January 10] and I’ll be on the Elvis Express,” Jackie said.
“It’s a lot of fun.
“It will be good to see all the kinds of people on the train who attend the festival.
“Having so many people in the one, compact space will be crazy,” she laughed.
The Miss Priscilla Dinner takes place on Thursday, January 11 at 6.30pm in the Starlight Room at the Parkes Services Club.
Tickets to the Miss Priscilla Dinner are on sale now.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the Parkes Elvis Festival website, with entries for all three categories closing at 5pm and 5.30pm on January 11.
