Players from Mudgee junior touch had their first taste of representative competition last weekend as they visited Dubbo for the Don Green Western Junior Championships.

10 Mudcrabs teams took part in the tournament, squaring off against sides from Orange, Dubbo, Parkes, Wellington, Portland and Dunedoo.
It was a strong overall display from the Mudgee sides.
The competition was dominated by Orange as it won eight of the 10 grand finals, one of which was a comprehensive 5-2 win over the Mudcrabs under 18s boys.
Mudgee had the wood on Parkes throughout the weekend, twice defeating their division foe in the preliminary rounds.
It was a strong overall display from the Mudgee sides taking positives home ahead of December’s gala day in Wellington and February’s junior state cup.
Other noteworthy results from Mudgee squads included: boys under 10s 7-1 win over Orange B, girls under 12s 4-2 win over Parkes and girls under 14s 7-3 win against Dubbo.
Both the 12s and 14s boys had draws, coming against Portland and Orange B respectively.
Despite a strong tournament, the under 16s boys failed to reach the grand final after they drew 3-3 with defending champions Orange and lost a pair of games by one try to Parkes and Dubbo.
