The town recorded 50 millimetres of rain during the course of the afternoon, with the heaviest falls coming after 4pm.
It was enough to play havoc with the Country Championships race meeting at Mudgee Race Club.
There was a downpour prior to the $150,000 Country Championships qualifier but got even heavier during the race and during the presentation.
In the town, wheelie bins were carried down the street by the running water and some found they had unexpected waterfront views.
But while it was heavy, the rain didn’t last long and had cleared up by Sunday evening.
Unfortunately the rain didn’t appear to be widespread, with some farms on the outskirts of town recording less than 25mm of rain.
Around the region, Dunedoo received 31mm on Sunday, while Bathurst got 34mm, Orange had 16mm and Dubbo recorded no rain.
