“2017 was a great year for Landcare with the roll-out of a number of fantastic projects, including our serrated tussock project and Green Day, we're really looking forward to future activities.” said Watershed Landcare Chair, Vivien Howard.
“It's been fantastic sitting on the Watershed Committee for the last few years, and I'm looking forward to my new role of Chair, working with our dedicated Committee and Watershed's fantastic Co-ordinators.” she continued.
The group is currently working on it's strategic plan for the next three years.
Strategic priorities will continue to focus on sustainable agriculture, the natural environment and supporting and growing the capacity of our members, networks and our connection with the broader community. A new target area will be emerging issues; proactively responding to issues, both positive and negative, that have an immediate impact on our members.
The group will continue to work with landholders to promote agricultural systems that are regenerative and have a capacity to adapt to significant changes in climate, weather and markets as well as protecting and enhancing plants, animals, soil, water quality and ecosystems within our district.
Current activities supported by Watershed Landcare are partially funded by NSW Government’s Local Landcare Coordinators Initiative, supported through the partnership of Local Land Services and Landcare NSW. The group will be actively seeking funding from various sources to deliver future training, workshops, seminars, field days, on-ground works and projects.
The Communities of Practice groups, the Mudgee Microscope Group, Grazing Group, Women in Agriculture group and the Mudgee Bee Group also remain a strong focus, bringing together diverse groups of people with similar goals.
“Landcare is for everybody, so if you've got an interest in sustainable agriculture or our local environment, then please get in touch. There are many fantastic ways to be involved.” said Ms Howard.
