A pall of smoke over Kandos on Sunday morning caused some consternation, until the roar of V8’s at full song explained the scene. The Kandos Street Machine Club was having a Test and Tune Day. For members only, the practice helps tune the cars and helps drivers learn how to do the circular loops needed for a good burnout.

The main street in Kandos has been sealed with asphalt hotmix. The roadworks was done by a Tamworth firm, with the assistance of Mid-Western Regional Council and the effect is top shelf quality.

Hole In One
The Henbury Sport and Recreation Club received a grant of $4118 from Paul Toole, MP Member for the Bathurst Electorate. “The Henbury Sport and Recreation Club is such an important community hub for Kandos/Rylstone residents. The funding will help with further improvements to the club with new timers, spray and watering equipment for the golf course,” Mr Toole said.
Raising Funds
Ferntree Gully had one of its best fundraising bush croquet events ever when it raised $917 on Sunday, May 6. An amount that will go a long way towards improvements for the area.
Set at the extreme northerly end of the reserve overlooking Growee Gulph, the scenic area attracted a good crowd of supporters young and old who battled it out during the day.
The course itself proved difficult towards the end, with two holey logs and a water bath to negotiate thanks to the craftiness of Mike Pridmore who set up a real challenge. Rising to this challenge however, Natalie stokes won the Ted Daniel Trophy for the second time – a determined effort and one that will be added to the record books. The trophy was presented to Natalie by her father, Mal Stokes, winner from last year and also Chairman of the Ferntree Gully Trust – a great family effort.
Mal thanked everyone for coming. He said the proceeds will help greatly with some of the maintenance projects, including building a shelter over the picnic area walking track sign which is in need of protection from the weather.
The raffle of one tonne of seasoned yellow box firewood, cut to 300ml lengths was won by local family, the Bleach’s who were very pleased. Organisers wish to thank raffle ticket buyers and local shops who helped sell tickets in the weeks leading up to the draw at the tournament. Story: Brent Barlow
