Beryl Haley, President of the Gulgong Branch spoke of the branch saying they have been in operation for 102 years raising funds for the community.
Beryl then introduced the Red Cross area manager for Gulgong June Hutchison who congratulated Gulgong on their outstanding work over the years. June went on to outline the type of the work the Red Cross does which includes attending disasters, working with emergency services, psychological first aid and more recently two initiatives have been introduced. “Save a Mate” is a service where the Red Cross speaks with young people about drugs and informs them on how to get advice or help should one of their friends be taking drugs. The other initiative is the “Pillow Case Campaign” where Red Cross personnel go to the schools and give the children a special pillow case and ask them to keep it in a convenient place so in case of an emergency they can easily pick it up and put all their important items in it.
After the speeches Des Kelly sang a couple of songs and then Astra Wilson introduced the parading gowns. After the parade the ladies enjoyed afternoon tea.
