The firefighters will wear their full kit of structural firefighting gear and breathing apparatus (a combined weight of 20kg) to raise much needed funds for Macquarie University to carry out further research on Motor Neurone disease.
If you go past Victoria Park or Billy Dunn Oval and see the fire truck there you can be sure our boys are there training, running up and down the stairs of the grand stands in full gear.
Make sure you give them a toot of encouragement as it isn’t an easy thing they are doing.

Gulgong Chamber hold their June meeting
HENRY LAWSON CENTRE
The Gulgong Chamber of Commerce held their June meeting in the Henry Lawson Centre. President Bill Murphy said “ We try and have our monthly meeting in a different establishment>”
“This gives us the opportunity to bring the meeting to the members and hear firsthand if they are experiencing any problems the Chamber might assist with.” He said.
The guest speaker for this meeting was Snr Constable Dan Fielding from Gulgong Police Station.
Snr Constable Fielding spoke to the chamber about the vigilance needed to avoid theft in their businesses which is happening too frequently around Gulgong.
He spoke of the need for surveillance cameras which give the police evidence they need to make an arrest should a crime take place.
Constable Fielding also spoke about the police presence in Gulgong.
He said people have become complacent about reporting crimes because they think the police have to come from Mudgee and by the time they get to Gulgong the incident will be over.
He insisted that we must report every incident to maintain and increase the police presence in Gulgong.
Henry Lawson stamp collage competition drawn
In June 2017 the 150th anniversary of the birth of Henry Lawson Australia Post released two stamps in honour of his birthday.
The stamps depicted two pieces of Lawson’s short fiction:
The very well known “The Drovers Wife” on the $1 stamp and the lesser known “Mitchell of character sketch” on the $2.95 stamp.
“The Drover’s Wife” represents Lawson’s more traditional narrative writing style. The story is set in the remote outback.
Scott Etherington from Gulgong Post Office and Bruce McGregor from McGregor Real Estate got together and created a collage including the stamps and other products of Lawson memorabilia released at the same time.
They two sold tickets up until the Henry Lawson Festival weekend and it was drawn in the Henry Lawson Centre on the Monday of the festival weekend.
