With ‘ketchup in his veins’ and over a decade of experience at the golden arches, new McDonald’s Mudgee owner Daniel Zammit has taken over the store with his wife Belinda as the pair plan to implement a community-first approach.

The couple took over the franchise on July 2 and plan on hosting fundraising events for schools, sporting organisations and service groups.

After being raised in South-West Sydney and taking ownership of McDonald’s Scone, Mr Zammit has felt a warm welcome at Mudgee and has aspirations to further involve himself in the community.

“Mudgee has quite a vibrant community and spirit with a lot to offer,” Mr Zammit said.

“We’re surrounded by great people. Everyone’s been friendly and helpful.

“I’m looking forward to making a positive impact to the local community and being an active participant within the Chamber of Commerce.”

After starting his first paid job with the fast food giant at age 15, Daniel went on to perform several roles for McDonald’s during his decade-long tenure, before having a successful corporate career.

With over 110 local residents currently employed by McDonald’s Mudgee, Mr Zammit hopes workers are able to gain the most out of their experiences – just like he did.

“I came through the McDonald’s system, which held me in good stead for later life,” he said.

“It gave me a fundamental building block for my career. It gives young people confidence to grow and take opportunities and run with it, they get that discipline of training and support.”

Daniel and Belinda plan on splitting time between Scone and Mudgee but are looking to set high standards for customers.

“In my business I employ over 220 people across the two stores. That’s not something that should not be sneezed about, we’re a fairly large employer but were a family business,” he said.

“Fast, friendly, good customer service, very clean… a place that people respect.”
