The three-year-old Rottweiler moved to Australia from New Orleans with his owners Ian Newton and Judy Hall and has become a very large but friendly local figure.
Angus spends a lot of his time resting in reception and trotting through the halls and even though he’s got a somewhat scary exterior, he’s a happy, talkative character.
Angus is the sixth Rottweiler Ian and Judy have owned as they’ve developed a passion for the German breed.
“When our last Rottweiler passed we wanted to find a new buddy and we found Angus as a puppy,” Ian Newton said.
“He was eight weeks old when we bought him in Baton Rouge. We took him back to New Orleans that day.
“Because we’ve had six Rottweilers, we’re very experienced in controlling and training dogs and if these (Rottweilers) aren’t controlled properly they can be a danger to the public.”
‘Danger to the public’ is one of the last descriptions you’d use for Angus, even though he weighs in at a whopping 70kg.
“From the age of six months, we took him to a dog park in New Orleans every day,” Ian said.
“He played with other dogs off-lead and when two other dogs were about to get into a punch-up, Angus would run between them to break them up.
“He’s very animated. He talks, complains, and he’s very gentle with children.”
Angus’ pedigree is a heroic one, as his father was the 2015 USA grand champion Rottweiler.
Something that throws a lot of people off when they see Angus is his tail, as a lot of Australian-born Rottweilers don’t have them.
“If you want to exhibit your Rottweiler in Germany – the mecca of Rottweiler championships – they won’t consider them without a tail.”
You might be wondering why such a friendly dog has been appointed as Cob & Co’s head of security but Ian has no doubt, if Angus was required to, he’d be willing to fight off an intruder.
“He’s very clever and articulate and will defend himself if he has to.”
