Laying around in the sun all day doesn’t seem like a bad gig.
Bob, Mudgee Airport’s furry friend, has been doing that for about three years now.
He’s become a frequent flyer at the airport and Bob, the Aerodrome Reporting Officer, says his namesake is often fed treats by visitors as well.
“No wonder he’s a bigger cat. He’s very well-fed,” Bob laughed.
“People don’t stop feeding him when they walk past. We had a lady come here to other day just to feed him. Everyone loves Bob.”
Bob, or ‘Little Bob’, mysteriously arrived at the airport three years ago and after being warmly welcomed to reception, hasn’t left since – even though he once unintentionally hitched a ride into town.
“We got a call a while back from a bloke who accidentally drove to Woolworths with the cat. It climbed up under the ute,” he laughed.
“He doesn’t do much and he’s pretty quiet but he takes nicely to everyone.”
“Luckily the guy ended up driving him back to the airport.
“He doesn’t do much and he’s pretty quiet but he takes nicely to everyone.”
There’s still a few question marks surrounding Bob, including its gender, which hasn’t yet been confirmed.
“We’re not sure if its a boy or a girl but we call it Bob anyway. He’s named after me,” he laughed.
Bob is very approachable and friendly and even though his resting face is somewhat intimidating – especially for someone who isn’t used to cats – it’s just a facade.
It runs towards friendly onlookers and loves being petted and of course, given snacks by whoever wants to feed it.
Bob exclusively hangs outside the front of reception and makes for a perfect greeting when you visit Mudgee’s airport.
