The upgrade includes an extension to the taxiway, a terminal fit-out, an upgrade to the water and sewerage services and a boost in the support provided towards ground handling services.
In addition to the enhancements, George Campbell Drive was realigned, and the existing airside boundary relocated to maximise the airside land for future development.
During the announcement, Troy Grant expressed excitement towards the upgrade and believes it will act as a major drawcard for the region.
In other news:
“The upgrades at the airport will draw more visitors to this popular tourist destination and provide opportunities for future growth,” Mr Grant said.
“The government is committed to boosting tourism in regional NSW which is why we have provided $79 million to regional airports around the state to upgrade their terminals and airside facilities under the Restart NSW Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund.”
Not only will this bode well for tourist attraction, Mr Grant thinks it could lead to more flights coming in and out of the region.
“Mudgee’s wineries, beautiful township and natural attractions already bring large numbers of visitors to the area, and the opportunity to grow those tourist numbers will attract further investment,” he said.
