It’s not a fundraiser or a charity day, it’s simply an afternoon where our farmers can kick back and take a load off.

On Sunday September 2, the Mudgee Race Club and its sponsors is powering a free day out for our farmers and their families.
The event will run alongside the XXXX Cup – one of the biggest racing meets on the region’s calendar.
While the day is exclusively for farmers and their families, anyone who wishes to support the cause should turn up and get around the races that are on the same day.
The event is truly a family-friendly one with a jumping castle, face paint and carnival rides there for the kids, while the ladies will be offered free facials and hairdressing at the pampering corner.
Ken Sutcliffe, Hugh Bateman and the Mudgee Race Club put their heads together and have turned a good idea into a great event.
“It was an idea between the lot of us and we’ve all fine-tuned it,” Ken said.
“Max and Colleen (Walker) have embraced the idea and made it work. Their influence in the racing industry and beyond is astounding.”
There won’t be any identification checks at the entry point as the organisers are asking farmers and their families to just ‘turn up’.
“The farmers know who they are. They can just walk in and head to the marquee that will be set up for them."

“The farmers know who they are. They can just walk in and head to the marquee that will be set up for them,” Ken said.
“We’re relying on an honour system.”
Colleen Walker has been tower of strength for the Mudgee Race Club and says she just wants the farmers and their families to relax.
“The idea is that the farmers don’t have to put their hands in their pockets,” she said.
“There will be no fundraisers. It’s just a day for the community to show support for the farmers and a day for the farmers to have a day out with their families.
“Our award-winning Jess Holland will be there and we’ve also got Paul Costa who was the people’s choice winner at the Tamworth Country Music Awards.
“What were trying to create is, a real country fair atmosphere.”
The seven-race afternoon will be headlined by the $32,000, Black Nugget Cup.
