The program ran over two days and gave students an insight into the hospitality industry helping them with their HSC preparation.
Hospitality teacher Jason Nicholls said it was a great experience for the young cooks to learn the ropes of hospitality.
“The students were given a first hand experience of what goes on in a real work place,” he said.
On the first day the students listened to presentations on work in the food and beverage industry.
They also went on tour of the Novotel and mixed up some mocktails.
The following day the HSC students were dressed in Chefs Whites where they learned the petite ways of pastry and coffee making.
Mr Nicholls said they stayed in the hotel as guests and dined in the restaurant providing a good example.
“Staying there enabled students to see the standard of service and accomodation required in a four star hospitality establishment,” he said.
He also said it was an exciting time for everyone to visit such a large scale hotel as that was something that was not yet available in Mudgee.
“It was a great experience, they learned a lot in such a big, fast paced environment,” he said.
The excursion was the first of many, Mr Nicholls said there were plans to make it a yearly trip.
Enrolments into the 2019 Mudgee High School Hospitality class will soon open for year 10 students.
Mr Nicholls urged any students who were thinking of a career in hospitality to apply.
