After trailing by five goals at the end of the opening quarter in a blockbuster division one grand final against the Starlets Paragon, the McDonald Lawson outfit tightened the screws on the defensive end to eventually come away with a 35-26 victory in last Saturday’s grand final.
The division one clash capped a tremendous 2018 for the Mudgee District Netball Association, with an exciting day of deciders held on Saturday, September 15.
This year we had over 600 participants in 10 divisions in the winter competition.
In the top grade, the Starlets Paragon side came out all guns blazing and raced to an early five-goal lead, defying what were fairly even early exchanges to put immense pressure on the minor premiers.
But McDonald Lawson's dynamic defence came to the fore and caused a number of turnovers in the second and third quarters, which were utilised by the minor premiers’ attack and shooting end.
It was a good match up and contest between the two teams as their last game prior to finals was a draw and it was really any ones game going into Saturdays match.
Saturday’s premiership victory is back-to-back titles for McDonald Lawson. They are hoping to get the trifecta next year.
