More than 100 families came from Parkes, Yass, Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst, Cessnock, Lithgow, and Scone.
The event’s focus on the early levels of gymnastics makes it an excellent primer for young athletes before they go on to compete at state events and move higher through the level system. It also gives local judges and coach’s invaluable competition experience.
Sacha Etherington, the club’s head coach, established the annual event to address the lack of local, state affiliated competitions.
The facilities at Mudgee Gymnastics gym were perfectly suited to the smaller clubs across the state. Sacha’s experience from many years of judging and coaching at the Australian National Championships makes the competition an excellent introduction to official gymnastics competition.
Gymnasts in the Mudgee Gymnastics club have been working hard for this competition, training twice a week.
With the support of dedicated coaches within the club Mudgee Gymnastics continues to grow with several general gymnastics classes being offered for school age children and Kinder Gym classes for preschool age children.
“We couldn’t do it without the hours of work from our wonderful team here at Mudgee Gymnastics” Sacha said. “It really is a credit to all of them.”
Word of the competition continues to spread with teams as far as Coffs Harbour asking to attend next year’s event.
If the smiles on the gymnast’s faces are any indication, the competition was a roaring success.
