Flack, 28, has been elected as the club’s new president following the Dragons’ annual general meeting, taking the reins from out-going boss Jared Robinson.
The hard-nosed back-rower believes 2019 will be an big one for the club.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity to take over as president and to make sure we continue to improve our brand, and give the community a competitive club they are proud of,” the new president said.
“We are working hard to improve the culture among our players, making it a club people want to be involved in and, in return, more successful.”
Flack would be one of the youngest presidents in Country Rugby League but he believes his age will bring new ideas, once respect has been sorted.
“Fresh ideas and enthusiasm is what it [age] will bring, I just have to build a level of respect firstly,” he said.
I think it will have a positive outcome on the year, but it’s not about turning it around in one year, it’s a process that you have to keep working at along the way, then sustaining the system you set up.
- Sebastian Flack, Mudgee Dragons President
“I have been around the club for a while and have been fairly involved in the change in culture so that won’t be unfamiliar.
“But I’m looking to make change, which of course is nerve-wracking as not everyone is accepting of change straight away.
“Hopefully everyone can trust and jump on board with the direction we are heading in.
“I’m hoping I can get as much help as I can from players and past committee members or engage new help with the smaller broken down roles.”
Elected unopposed, Flack was glowing in his gratitude towards the club’s former president.
“I would like to commend Jared Robinson on behalf of the whole Mudgee Dragons,” Flack added.
“It’s a tough job and takes up a lot of your time that could be spent doing other things so you sacrifice a lot, which we hope he can now fulfill with his young, beautiful family.
“We look forward to still having him around as one of the senior players in the club.”
Kathy Lang was re-elected as club secretary with Shannon Beasley elected as the new treasurer at the AGM.
The club is now working on role descriptions, and will hold another meeting this weekend to announce coaches and important dates for the 2019 season.
Meanwhile, Bathurst St Pat's has confirmed 2008 title winning coach Kevin Grimshaw will return to the club's coaching fold, joining forces with Dane Fisher to lead the blue and white's under 18s side next season.
Given St Pat’s under 18s finished the 2018 regular season in the top three, Grimshaw and Fisher certainly have a decent squad to work with.
