Raymond David Ian Clissold, aged 33, of Samarai Road, Whalan, was stopped by police patrolling the Mudgee CBD at about 3.17am on Tuesday, July 17, 2018.
Officers saw his vehicle leave the BP service station and drive along Church Street, before turning into a side street as they caught up with them. Clissold was out of the vehicle when they stopped to speak to him and a female passenger was in the driver’s seat.
However, she was noticeably shorter than Clissold and officers observed that the seat appeared to be too far back for her to be able operate the vehicle. He admitted that he was disqualified and insisted that the woman was driving.

When asked why the seat was so adjusted so far back she claimed it helped with avoiding kangaroos and other wildlife on the road, but couldn’t elaborate on how exactly this worked when further questioned.
Officers then asked her to put her feet on the pedals and she moved forward in the seat in order to do so, thus negating any advantage of having the seat positioned where it was.
Furthermore, the CCTV footage at the service station clearly showed Clissold entering the driver’s seat of the vehicle prior to its departure earlier.
Clissold wasn’t before Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, to face the charge of ‘Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period’, having sent in a medical certificate.
Upon reading his criminal history and issuing an arrest warrant, Magistrate David Day said “I think we need to see him”.
