Council has launched a new project to photograph and catalogue the region’s heritage buildings after securing a $97,000 grant from the NSW Government Office of Environment and Heritage.

The six-month project will involve capturing historically and socially significant information through digital recordings.
As part of the project residents will be invited to share historical materials and records about a range of heritage sites.
This information will be catalogued and made accessible online for current and future generations and inform Council’s heritage management strategies.
Council’s general manager, Brad Cam, said the project will also inform future initiatives, such as interactive heritage walks within the region’s main centres.
“This project will increase the community’s awareness of historically significant sites so we can ensure they are maintained into the future,” Mr Cam said.
“The community are encouraged to be involved by attending one of three Heritage Talks and sharing stories, documents, or photographs which will then be digitally recorded and catalogued online.”
The first Heritage Talk will be held at Kandos Library on Tuesday, December 11, from 10am beginning with a project overview, followed by individual appointments with Council staff who will begin collating the information provided.
A session will also be held in Gulgong and Mudgee in the New Year.
