Allen Charles Smith of Cameron Street, Mudgee, was fined $110 for the charge ‘Possess prohibited drug’ when he appeared in Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday.
Police patrolling Mudgee’s west end on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 18, 2018, spoke to Smith when they spotted him walking along Gladstone Street.
He appeared to be nervous interacting with them and explained his whereabouts as getting money out of the ATM.
However, the officers noticed that he had a $10-note, which ATMs don’t distribute.
Smith’s legal-aid solicitor, Steven Wright, told the court that his client had “a small amount of cannabis” in his possession.
Magistrate David Day said that this none-the-less brought him afoul of authorities.
“The law may change, but don’t hold your breath,” he said.
