The fund assists rural and regional events in their first or second year to grow attendance and boost the local visitor economy.
Whether it’s food and wine events or music and sporting festivals, we know that events play an important role in driving additional overnight visitation, and help to create more jobs.
Mudgeeque and the Mudgee Hot Air Balloon Festival are each fantastic events to fuel our local economy by putting more heads on hotel beds, diners in our restaurants and shoppers in our boutiques, and I am delighted these events will receive this NSW Government funding support.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said the NSW Government is doing everything it can to supercharge regional communities.
“Our regional communities are full of brilliant ideas and the Incubator Event Fund provides a platform to get events off the ground and up and running – events that will help enliven and kick start local economies,” Mr Marshall said.
“As a country Minister, it’s really important to me that NSW Government support continues to reach every corner of the State’s tourism industry, and I congratulate Mudgeeque and the Mudgee Hot Air Balloon Festival on their success in Round One of the 2019 Incubator Event Fund.”
The Incubator Event Fund offers one-off grants of up to $20,000 to those staging an event for the first or second time to fund elements such as staging, venue hire, research, marketing and publicity activities.
The Fund is part of the Regional Flagship Events Program which also includes the Flagship Event Fund and the Event Development Fund.
New health board member announced
The NSW Government has appointed one of the region’s most respected figures, Dubbo’s John Walkom, to the Western NSW Local Health District Board.
Mr Walkom is a highly regarded local businessman, and a strong advocate for regional Australia.
He is the current Chair of Regional Development Australia Orana, and sits on a number of community boards, including the Taronga Conservation Society.
“The WNSWLHD Board is responsible for the strategic governance of all health services in the LHD, which extends from Oberon in the east, to Bourke in the West, and from Grenfell up to the Queensland border,” Mr Grantsaid.
“While Mr Walkom will be part of a Board that has to provide for all those communities, the wealth of local experience and understanding he has in this area will be a great asset for the entire health district.
“We are extremely fortunate to have a Local Health District Board which not only wants to do its best for the development of services across the LHD, but has the skills and experience to support change and innovation.”
The NSW Government has also confirmed the reappointment to the Western NSW Local Health District Board of:
- Mr Scott Griffiths (current Chair) from Orange
- Mrs Amanda O’Brien from Gingkin, south-west of Bathurst
- Mrs Joan Treweeke from Lightning Ridge
- Ass. Prof. Joseph Canalese from Dubbo.
Other members of the WNSWLHD Board are:
- Mr Darren Ah See from Wellington
- Mrs Fiona Bennett from Orange
- Mr Jason Cooke from Bathurst
- Mr Paul Mann from Gilgandra
- Dr Colin McClintock from Dubbo.
