Via Mid-Western Regional Council and Office of Troy Grant
Member for Dubbo Troy Grant today announced $2.3 million in funding for Mid-Western Regional Council to transform an old government building into a thriving cultural centre through round two of the NSW Government’s $100 million Regional Cultural Fund.
Mr Grant said the regional gallery project will benefit the Mudgee region as well as the local arts community.
“Mudgee already has so much to offer so it makes sense for such a destination to have a cultural centre of this magnitude”, Mr Grant said.
“These kinds of projects also offer new experiences for both local and overseas visitors, leading to more tourism dollars and jobs for the town.

“The NSW Government also aided this project by facilitating the sale of the Market Street site to Mid-Western Regional Council for just $1.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said a series of projects across the state will receive a share of the $47 million round two funding, including up to $5 million specifically for regional public library infrastructure projects.
"We recognise that such a space is important to the community with a Regional Gallery ranking in the top five most important projects to 52 per cent of residents surveyed,"

“Art, screen, culture, music and performance are at the heart and soul of regional NSW and this funding will provide even more opportunities for locals to enjoy entertaining and educational experiences,” Mr Barilaro said.
“Importantly it will also provide artists with new opportunities to showcase innovative and quality works and allow visitors to experience a diverse range of arts and activities while generating social, economic and tourism benefits across the state.
“By improving and supporting local art galleries, libraries and artist-led public art we are making towns and cities across regional NSW vibrant places to live, study, work and play.”
Mayor of the Mid-Western Region Des Kennedy said the welcomed funding will be used in the refurbishment and extension of the building.
“Council’s vision for this facility is a dedicated Arts and Cultural Centre, capable of hosting travelling exhibitions with workshop areas to accommodate professional development and education programs,” Cr Kennedy said.
“We recognise that such a space is important to the community with a Regional Gallery ranking in the top five most important projects to 52 per cent of residents surveyed in 2016/17.”
The Regional Cultural Fund is part of the NSW Government’s $1.6 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to improve economic growth and productivity as well as community amenity with investment in regional communities.
