Kandos Kaos is Laurie and Helen Cole, who have secured a Holden Commodore VT wagon for the coast-to-coast journey.
Each car must worth less than $1,000 (safety upgrades such as brakes and tyres exempted) and can’t be an all/four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Laurie said that their son Michael’s involvement in the event piqued their interest, his impression of it being a “great fun thing to do and raise money for a good cause”.
I thought ‘what a great thing’, because it’s raising money for the Cancer Council, which is a great cause and it’s raised over $14 million in nine years.

However, becoming one of the 250 teams was a longer journey than the 5,500km one they’ll embark on in May.
“This is the tenth year that they’ve been doing the rally in Australia and we’ve been on the waiting list for five years and we’ve finally been accepted,” he said.
“Our son has done six and this will be his seventh, he’s a veteran at it these days.
“After he did his first one I was looking at it and thought ‘what a great thing’, because it’s raising money for the Cancer Council, which is a great cause and it’s raised over $14 million in nine years.”
The 2019 route will start in Perth on May 8 and finish in Sydney on May 17, travelling via the iconic Uluru.
It will also have a local stop, with the convoy set to have their final night at Cudgegong Waters Park before heading to Sydney on the last day.
Previous rallies have always been seven days, making this the first ever ten-day experience to mark the tenth anniversary of the rally.
The rally is the largest independent fundraiser for the Cancer Council nationally and broke records in 2018 with fundraising totals reaching $1.974 million - the most money ever raised in a rally since it began. This has set the bar for a new 2019 fundraising goal of $2 million, each team needs to raise a minimum of $5,000.
