Right from kick off, both sides came out strong and speedy, but it was City's fullback Anton Sahyoun who made a kick on a last play, providing Jack Webster with the perfect pathway to score the first try of the day.
Corey White converted the try to give City a six point lead three minutes into the match.
Some four minutes later, City's Simon Gairns found a space at the corner to place down the blue and yellow's second try that was converted by Colin Farmilo.
12 minutes out from half-time, Webster made a 60 metre dash alongside Country's Adam McIness who he was going toe to toe with, but McIness' speed wasn't enough to prevent the left-centre from claiming his second of the day.
Three minutes on and Webster maked an off-load to Gairns to award him with his second try, converted by Farmilo.
Country replied with Dane Clarke sneaking through the City defence line to get Country's first points on the board, bring the half-time score to 24-4.
