The round robin event saw Gulgong, Narromine, Cowra and Orange Country club all play each other with the winner determined by outright point score.
Before the finals series, Cowra and Orange were seen as the favourites, however at the end of two matches on the Saturday afternoon, all four clubs were sitting relatively even on a narrow win and loss each.
Gulgong had beaten Cowra in the morning and in the afternoon, went down on the very last bowl to a gallant Narromine side.
On Sunday morning, Gulgong played the very much favoured Orange side and were able to beat them convincingly over all three rinks with a score of 78-44, which left Gulgong on top of the table and the Zone 4 Grade 3 champions.
Gulgong will now travel to Tamworth in late July to contest the NSW State playoffs against all of the state's other grade 3 zone winners.
As for the Gulgong women's bowlers, the team travelled to Dubbo on May 6th and 7th to contest the Regional Women's Bowls Grade 2 playoffs.
Despite having played and won their district matches in the lower Grade 3 division, the Gulgong ladies were elevated into the Grade 2 playoffs and acquitted themselves well in breezy conditions.
However, in their first match they were out played by the classy and eventual winners, West Dubbo. Although the Gulgong girls were able to put good bowls in the head, the Dubbo ladies were ultimately too strong.
In the second match, Gulgong came out to overcome a strong Canowindra side, earning them the regional runner up title.
