It started all but 15 years ago in London with a bunch of friends coming together for a run.
Now in 2019, the five kilometre event is held across 1,500 locations in 23 countries in five continents, with Mudgee holding its very own spot.
Mudgee's parkrun has been in operation since 2017, and this week's event will celebrate 136 runs, totalling 75,000 kilometres in distance and 15,000 individual runners.
Solely organised by a collection of volunteers, the event welcomes people from all ages, says a Mudgee parkrun spokesperson.
"The response to Parkrun has been incredible and a true inspiration to see so many people excited to get out of bed and start their weekend with us," they said.
"The ethos is all about inclusivity, you never have to ask 'am I good enough for parkrun?' as everyone is welcome, from babies to grandparents, from fast club runners to those walking.
"It's more than just fitness. Local parkruns provide a connection to the local community, an opportunity to create new friendships, advocates benefits to overall wellbeing and mental health, bringing people together from all walks of life.
"We want as many people as possible to feel part of a real local community."
