More than 70 school teams from Mudgee, Gulgong, Dunedoo, Rylstone, Kandos, Illford and the surrounding small-school areas took part in the touch football gala day on Tuesday at Glen Willow.
The annual event provides primary school students an opportunity to learn, play and enjoy the sport of touch football.
No scores or results are kept, rather the 'winning' school is determined by their sportsmanship and respect shown to others throughout the day.
NSW Touch Football Development Officer Ricky Hetherington said it was extremely close this year with many schools in the running to win the David Aldridge Shield.
He said the referees, the Mudgee Touch committee and the canteen helpers all have a vote to determine the winning school.
It was so close this year that I had to vote too.
- NSW Touch Football Development Officer Ricky Hetherington
He hopes that some of the students decide to play touch football this summer.
He said it was a great sight seeing more than 500 students from across the Mid-Western region enjoying themselves.

The 2019-20 season begins on Tuesday, October 15.
